What is the work I need to do?

The Moon

"Just like moons and like suns, with the certainty of tides, just like hopes springing high, still I'll rise." —Maya Angelou

Friends -

The Moon asks, what is the work you need to do?

We're now at the last four cards of the Major Arcana – and they get more esoteric and cryptic. Even after my 30 years of studying and practicing the Tarot, these last four cards remain mysterious and enigmatic - and they are fundamental to understanding our life path.

The Moon isn't the most comfortable Major Arcana card. Though everybody likes to equate it with mysteries, rarely does someone really enjoy the look into their own abyss, where the unvarnished truth is not too pleasant.

The Moon tends to show what we generally ignore, refuse to see, or deny all the time. But the step has to be taken, for without facing up to darkness, we will never see the light. In moonlight, you notice that things look very different than in daylight.

The Moon is one of the Karma cards, signifying work to be done. What is the work do you need to do? Please read more on The Moon below.

How do you know if a Tarot reading is right for you?

  • You're going through a life transition or marking an occasion.

  • You feel disconnected from your intuition.

  • You want to get to the root of an issue to clear it.

  • You're ready to get a new perspective.

  • You're ready to make different choices.

The Moon

Your actions, particularly your choices, will likely impact the future for some time. When you add the deep inner and often unconscious energy currents represented by The Moon, you know it will be a spiritually rich but potentially confusing four weeks.

In the card, we see the gods of Anubis and Set standing guard over a valley of the Unknown, the journey between the Sun and the Moon. A scarab beetle pushes the Sun, the God of Transformation, known as 'He Who Becomes,' shining from beneath the waters of the unconscious.

Semele Xerri, in her recent Spiritual Guidance for June/July 2024 blog, talks about how many cultures believe that souls enter and exit the earth through the gateway/portal of the Moon, so there's something to be recognized here about the cyclic nature of time and our journey as souls incarnating into many different bodies through time.

Another way your soul and unconscious may communicate with you is through your dreams. Nightmares may show you where your deepest fears lie, urging you to shine the light of your inner knowing and understanding and lay them to rest.

The Moon reflects back to us the mystery of who we are. She is the universal feminine principle. Her magnetic force on the ocean reminds us that the inherent power of our own receptive nature is to open, expand, and yield.

The Moon is the symbol most associated with romance. She reminds us that we can see our potential dreams and visions when we're romantically engaged with a person, other living being, or idea. Equally powerfully, the romantic state can also be one of illusion and deception.

It's important to remember that the primary challenge to The Moon is the Nine of Swords – self-cruelty. While you're doing the often difficult work of going inward, it's essential that you do not use this as an opportunity to beat yourself up for actual or perceived 'sins.'
