Why is this happening ?

The Tower

“When we resist change, it’s called suffering. But when we can completely let go and not struggle against it, when we can embrace the groundlessness of our situation and relax into its dynamic quality, that’s called enlightenment.”

― Pema Chödrön, Living Beautifully: with Uncertainty and Change

Friends -

The Tower asks: Why is this happening?

This is not a “poor me, why?!?” question. Instead, The Tower asks you to look with wide-open eyes as to why some – or maybe many - aspects of your life seem to be coming apart.

While it is easy to look away (even looking deeply at this card can make you anxious), The Tower is a gift. For you to heal, for restoration and renovation to come into your life, the old needs to be destroyed

The Tower gives you the eyes to see what is false in your life – feelings, career paths, relationships, etc. You have the choice to demolish what is false and embrace what is true - thereby aligning internal and external realities.

The Tower is a scary - and liberating - card. It is about seemingly unshakable and permanent structures falling. Looking at the third eye at the top of the card, what does your third eye see?

I’ve been honored over the years to do readings for so many – is it time to do yours?

For your heart, mind & spirit -

P.S. If you haven’t seen it yet, check out my recent post: Guidance - The Lunar Moon (January - February.) This piece gives us insights and tools for 2024 - or in Henry David Thoreau’s quote: “It’s not what you look at that matters. It’s what you see.” The piece piggybacks on writings from the brilliant teacher, Semele Xerri.

What my clients are saying:

Elyn does a terrific job of listening to my questions and helping me rephrase them to evoke an excellent and highly useful reading that supports my life decisions. Can't recommend her highly enough!" Anne, Santa Fe NM

Elyn’s deep knowledge of and connection to Tarot inspires trust and openness during her readings. She does a fantastic job of guiding her clients through readings while giving the cards meaning room to breathe.” Maggie, NYC

How do you know if a Tarot reading is right for you?

  • You're going through a life transition or marking an occasion.

  • You feel disconnected from your intuition.

  • You want to get to the root of an issue to clear it.

  • You're ready to get a new perspective.

  • You're ready to make different choices.

The Tower lets you see what is false in your life – feelings, relationships, career paths, etc. You have the choice to demolish what is false and embrace what is true - thereby aligning internal and external realities.

Angeles Arrien, in her The Tarot Handbook, notes that The Tower asks us to pay attention to even the seemingly smallest synchronicities. Thanks to these ‘wake-up’ calls, you can then clearly see who you are and what you want regardless of family or cultural conditioning.

Last month, I included a special post on Semele Xerri’s wise piece Spiritual Guidance January/February 2024. At the beginning of each year, she pulls a card – this year, it is The Tower.

Semele writes, in part, “It will be almost impossible to hold on to traditional structures and methods of the past now as the necessity of the completely different becomes more and more obvious. These are weeks of intense and potentially shocking events that may explode your sense of security, what you believed to be true about yourself and the world, and bring drastic change in their wake.”

I love how she concludes: “It’s helpful to realise that planning and direction setting is not going to look like you’re used to though. This is because you’re starting afresh as we are all are, not building on any existing rules or frameworks. So where you want to head is probably not going to be well defined at this point, and that is perfectly ok. It’s most important at this point to get a felt sense of how you want to live and experience life, based on the values you hold dear.

The Tower is a scary - and liberating - card. It is about seemingly unshakable and permanent structures falling. Looking at the third eye at the top of the card, what does your third eye see?

In Elyn’s Diary, we’re exploring our authenticity looking at the 22 Major Arcana cards, looking at each card and some of the questions they invite us to explore. These cards represent universal principles collectively experienced, regardless of our culture or family upbringing, and teach us how, as human beings, we grow, evolve, and deepen. The first fifteen:

The Fool: What does my heart tell me?

The Magus: How do I tell my truth?

The Priestess: How do I trust my intuition?

The Empress: How do I nurture?

The Emperor: How do I lead?

The Hierophant: Who are my teachers?

The Lovers: How do I love?

The Chariot: What’s my next adventure?

Adjustment: How do I find my balance?

The Hermit: How do I find my inner light?

Wheel of Fortune: Are you ready for good fortune?

Lust: What my passion?

The Hanged Man: What’s my hang-up?

Death: What do I need to let go of?

The Devil: What do I need to laugh at?
