What do I need to let go of?

Death

"I've never seen any life transformation that didn't begin with the person in question finally getting tired of their own nonsense."

  • Elizabeth Gilbert

Friends -

I often hear gasps of fear from clients when the Death card (#13) comes up in a reading. It's a scary-looking card – a skeleton wielding a scythe, fiercely cutting through what looks like tendons, with snakes coiling underneath. Death is intent on cutting through the bubbles surrounding the people in the background.

As I write below, Death is one of the most powerful Tarot cards – it means that you now have the vision and the ability to cut away what you need to let go of. We can move from what is to what will be.

First though, when clients book the The Three Spread reading, I’m often asked “What should my questions be?”

Here are some to think about: What is calling for my attention? What's being mirrored in my relationship right now? What do I really want in a romantic relationship? What am I ready to step into? What's keeping me stuck? What type of work/career should I be looking for? How can I help to make our planet healthier and more just?

The WELCOME20 discount expires August 15 - so book your reading before then!

I’ve been honored over the years to do readings for so many – is it time to do yours?

How do you know if a Tarot reading is right for you?

  • You're going through a life transition or marking an occasion.

  • You feel disconnected from your intuition.

  • You want to get to the root of an issue to clear it.

  • You're ready to get a new perspective.

  • You're ready to make different choices.

Death is one of the most powerful Tarot cards – it means that you now have the vision and the ability to cut away what you need to let go of.

We can move from what is to what will be.

Through the often painful experience of letting go, we can let in the new. When the Death card comes up in a reading, it means that you're ready – to do what is needed to get rid of that which no longer serves you. It moves us from what is to what will be.

After the flame, a pause,
After the pain, rebirth.
Obeying nature's laws
The phoenix goes to earth.

"The Phoenix Again" by May Sarton

Change is the foundation of life. Sometimes we crave it, and at others, we violently avoid it. It brings us everything wonderful and dreadful and sorrowful and exhilarating, on and on, over and over. It also takes it all away again and again.

We live through many death cycles and are always reborn with new experiences, loves, and ways to grow.

Death is not a stationary experience but rather a changing of form. There is movement from one place to another, a perpetual motion forward as we cycle through the various chapters of our life.

The Death card can help us flow through these sometimes challenging transitions by reminding us that this process is inevitable. How could we ever progress if we continued to hang onto what we've outgrown?

When the Death card shows up for you, you face an inevitable transition.

The Death card represents big changes, transformations, and, yes, endings. It helps us learn to face the unknown with courage, stay humble and curious, and adapt to loss and what comes after.

In Elyn’s Diary, we’re exploring our authenticity looking at the 22 Major Arcana cards, looking at each card and some of the questions they invite us to explore. These cards represent universal principles collectively experienced, regardless of our culture or family upbringing, and teach us how, as human beings, we grow, evolve, and deepen. The first thirteen:

The Fool: What does my heart tell me?

The Magus: How do I tell my truth?

The Priestess: How do I trust my intuition?

The Empress: How do I nurture?

The Emperor: How do I lead?

The Hierophant: Who are my teachers?

The Lovers: How do I love?

The Chariot: What’s my next adventure?

Adjustment: How do I find my balance?

The Hermit: How do I find my inner light?

Wheel of Fortune: Are you ready for good fortune?

Lust: What my passion?

The Hanged Man: What’s my hang-up?
