What’s my hang-up?

The Hanged Man

“We have to be far-seeing enough to listen to our callings and be creative about pursuing them – whether or not the world is ready to deem them economically valuable yet.”

  • Tara Mohr

Friends -

When The Hanged Man (12) comes up in a reading, it often elicits gasps of dread, similar to when The Tower or Death Major Arcana cards are pulled.

I've always seen those cards as gifts that help me get honest about where and how I'm not looking at what's true in my life.

Tara Mohr, the well-known coach, sums up one aspect of 'hang-ups' in a recent post But can I make money doing this? She notes how so many women (and many men) hesitate to follow their 'passion project' because they fear they won't be able to sustain themselves financially. She invites us to look at this question differently – that's where The Hanged Man comes in.

The great thing about pulling this card is that there's nothing left to do but face up to your 'hang-ups' and let go.

I’ve been honored over the years to do readings for so many – is it time to do yours?

How do you know if a Tarot reading is right for you?

  • You're going through a life transition or marking an occasion.

  • You feel disconnected from your intuition.

  • You want to get to the root of an issue to clear it.

  • You're ready to get a new perspective.

  • You're ready to make different choices.

The Hanged Man is upside down, the will is broken, and escape of any kind seems impossible. The serpents of wisdom and transformation lie coiled and sleeping.

The Hanged Man is nailed to the wood of his petrified beliefs, attitudes, and viewpoints – every new idea or intuition is ignored or resisted. Sound familiar to anyone you know?

Often when we experience being bound or limited, we feel numb, asleep, and depressed. The sleeping serpents remind us that nothing is renewed or regenerated when we are fixated or stuck.

The Hanged Man embodies rethinking your usual perspectives to achieve a greater goal. This means giving up your old concepts and attitudes about what constitutes "value," energy, or outdated attitudes.

As Tara Mohr notes in her blog: “So if you have a beloved idea you're hoping can also be a source of financial sustainability, you can certainly begin what is often a zig-zagging trial and error process of testing what may work to help you get there. But please don't do this with the story that the money you make tells you about the worth of the work.”

The great thing about pulling this card is that there's nothing left to do but face up to your 'hang-ups' and let go.

In Elyn’s Diary, we’re exploring our authenticity looking at the 22 Major Arcana cards, looking at each card and some of the questions they invite us to explore. These cards represent universal principles collectively experienced, regardless of our culture or family upbringing, and teach us how, as human beings, we grow, evolve, and deepen. The first twelve:

The Fool: What does my heart tell me?

The Magus: How do I tell my truth?

The Priestess: How do I trust my intuition?

The Empress: How do I nurture?

The Emperor: How do I lead?

The Hierophant: Who are my teachers?

The Lovers: How do I love?

The Chariot: What’s my next adventure?

Adjustment: How do I find my balance?

The Hermit: How do I find my inner light?

Wheel of Fortune: Are you ready for good fortune?

Lust: What my passion?
