How do trust my intuition?

The Sun

“It is always with excitement that I wake up in the morning wondering what my intuition will toss up to me, like gifts from the sea.” ~ Jonas Salk

Friends -

Do you trust and use your intuition to make challenging choices? The Priestess, the universal archetype of intuition and self-trust, asks us this question.

In the last two Elyn's Diary postings, we looked first at The Fool – listening to the voice of our heart. The second was The Magus - The Priestess is his counterpart.

The Magus and The Priestess are one of the pairings in the Tarot that illustrate the importance of balancing and integrating the divine masculine (doing and forming) and the divine feminine (being and inspiring) within you. See more on the Priestess below.

Over the next few months, we'll continue to look at all the Major Arcana cards and some of the questions they invite us to explore. The 22 cards in the Major Arcana represent universal principles collectively experienced, regardless of our culture or family upbringing. These 22 teachings address how, as human beings, we grow, evolve, and deepen.

I’ve been honored over the years to do readings for so many – is it time to do yours?

For your heart, mind & spirit -

The Priestess - Second Card

How do I trust my intuition?

The Priestess shows up in your Tarot readings when the veil between you and your subconscious is thin, and you have the opportunity to access the knowledge deep within, from your most profound truth and 'knowing.'

Intuition is our instinct, the seat of our emotions, and of what exists beyond our rational minds. This instinctive realm is unique to you and moves according to your own specific, natural law. Intuitive ‘hits’ come in all shapes and sizes - they may take the form of ideas, images, words, phrases, or simply strong gut reactions you can't ignore.

The Priestess represents different aspects of intuition and self-trust. For example, in Egyptian mythology, she is Isis, the Goddess of Intuition; in Greek mythology, she is Artemis, the Nature Goddess. In the Tarot Handbook, Angeles Arrien notes that The Priestess is the archetype of the journey homeward or the return to ourselves.

For readings about your relationships, The Priestess asks: What do you truly need and want from love? What do you need to learn about your values? Sometimes, The Priestess appears when someone is keeping a secret from you. This card is a sign that, in time, all secrets will be revealed - however, for right now, trust your intuition. If you suspect something is "off" before your reading, then you're on the right track.

For readings about your career, The Priestess asks: Are there hidden factors at play. Is there anything going on behind the scenes that you aren't seeing? If you want to change careers or are unsure of your next move, look within. What do you truly desire? Where do your passions lie?

As you begin to embody The Priestess, you find that you "just know" because you're hearing and acting on your inner voice, your intuition. The more you learn to trust this inner guidance, the more your abilities to know, heal, create and see clearly will blossom.

The Priestess teaches all of us to rely on ourselves and our own resources,  to become more responsible and independent on our spiritual path.

You'll know that everything you need is within you.
