What’s my next adventure?
“Oh, the places you will go!”
— Dr. Seuss
Friends -
The Chariot card, the principle of movement and stillness, asks us this question: What’s my next adventure? In this card, the Charioteer is on the brink of moving, but before he does, he’s making sure he’s grounded, centered, and pointed in the direction of his new adventure.
The Chariot reminds us that in the time of great change, we need to start at a place of stillness and self-awareness, then set our intentions, and then move. The card is about getting to where we want to go, and in this context, it follows naturally from the emotional choices made in The Lovers card.
In the most recent Elyn’s Diary, we began to explore our authenticity with the first seven Major Arcana Tarot cards:
The Fool: What does my heart tell me?
The Magus: How do I tell my truth?
The Priestess: How do I trust my intuition?
The Empress: How do I nurture?
The Emperor: How do I lead?
The Hierophant: Who are my teachers?
The Lovers: How do I love?
We'll continue in the months ahead to look at each of the Major Arcana cards and some of the questions they invite us to explore. The 22 cards in the Major Arcana represent universal principles collectively experienced, regardless of our culture or family upbringing. These 22 teachings address how, as human beings, we grow, evolve, and deepen.
In this time of the climate emergency, The Chariot reminds us to set our intentions with compassion and an open heart - both for ourselves and for a healthy and resilient world. The change is in every one of us.

Are you on the brink of making a significant change in your life?
The Chariot represents new journeys and the start of a new phase of life – everything from relationships to spiritual growth, living situations, or careers. So when The Chariot appears in a Tarot reading, take it as a sign of encouragement. You have set your intentions and are now in touch with your inner power and fierce dedication.
When we’re looking to make significant changes in our lives, it’s important to assess (from a place of stillness) what will help you grow and evolve. From that place of inner calm, you can then make smart decisions about the path to take.
Once you’ve set your intention don’t be passive, hoping that things will work out in your favor. Instead, take focused action and stick to the course, no matter what challenges come your way. You may be pulled in opposite directions and you’ll find your strength and conviction tested. Others may try to block you, distract you, or drag you down as you pursue your goal.
The Chariot is an invitation to draw upon your clear-cut intention, to hone in on what’s essential to you so that you can move past the obstacles in your way.
The Chariot card is full of symbols that help us look deeper into what supports and nurtures us when deciding to make a big change. Change is magical, like the Abracadabra writing on the canopy of the Chariot. The Charioteer holds the Wheel of Fortune in his hands, symbolizing good fortune. The four animals in front of The Chariot represent the essential ingredients for any big change: 1. The importance of tangible results; (Taurus) 2. Being creative in new ways (Leo); 3. Accepting risk (Aquarius); and, 4. Focusing on what has heart and meaning (Scorpio.)
The road on which The Chariot stands is paved with golden stones. This is the regal path, followed by every seeker of inner transformation and self-awareness.
Your new start leaves behind the old routine of your life. The activities you’re embarking on will enrich and stimulate you. So, ready yourself, line up your ducks – get ready to move.
